Our monthly board meeting starts at 7pm and usually lasts until around 9:30pm. All members are welcome to attend.

August 7th is the date of our second trip to FAY for a tour of the ATC tower and radar room. At this point the trip is full. If I get any cancellations, I will send out an email letting members know. With the response I have received for this activity, I will be working on additional dates for later this year.

Please note the date change; this is not 2nd Saturday.

Dr Parish will be at the club from 9am until 12noon offering first, second, and third class flight medicals. If you need a medical, send me an email at pres@wingsofcarolina.org with your name and time you would like an appointment. The cost is $100 cash or check.

Our speaker will be James Rary (known everywhere as “JR”).

JR is the training specialist at RDU tower and he will bring us behind the scenes regarding the operations at the tower, including approach control.

It promises to be an interesting and informative evening. As in the past, pizza is served at 6:30pm followed by the program at 7:00pm.

We are heading to Ernie’s in South Boston (W78). Grab a plane and plan a flight to arrive 7:15-7:30pm. If going in a club plane, place “Dinner Flight” in the Remarks and whether you have room for a Co-Pilot or Passenger. If you have reserved a club plane with a seat looking for a Co-Pilot/Passenger, please let Jim know.

Ernie’s will pick us up and drop us off. Let Jim Carlson know if you are going so I can give them a count Tuesday night.

This will be a training meeting at the club. The topic will be engine out on take-off and a discussion on Dulles Class B airspace / arrival & departure procedures.

Programs and specific times TBA

This month we are going to do something a little different.  We will investigate the various pre-flight planning programs that you can access on your computer.   In doing so, we will demonstrate the positives and the negatives of each program.   We will demonstrate:

• fltplan.com
• AOPA Flight Planning
• Fore Flight
• Chart Case

These, and perhaps other programs, will be demonstrated by some of our more traveled members.  Each of them will present one of the programs and tell us why they feel that program best suits their personal flight planning and travel needs.  Discussions about use of the iPad prior to and during flight will certainly follow.

This should be fun and educational for everyone, from the seasoned instrument pilot to the new student who is preparing to fly his/her first cross-country. And, as always, we invite you to bring your favorite co-pilot who helps you with your pre-flight planning.

Of course, you will also enjoy David’s great gourmet pizza prepared especially for this event.
