Our fourth and final club trip of the year is scheduled for November 19th. We will be flying to Savannah, GA (KSAV) to tour the Mighty 8th Air Force museum. “On January 28, 1942, fifty-three days after the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor, the 8th Air Force was officially activated in the National Guard Armory on Bull Street in Savannah, Georgia. The Museum honors the men and women who helped defeat Nazi aggression by serving in or supporting the greatest air armada the world had ever seen-the 8th Air Force.” More information on the museum can be found at http://www.mightyeighth.org/.

The plan is for our 152s to depart TTA around 8:00 AM and our faster planes thereafter. We should arrive in Savannah by 10:30 – 11:00 AM. I have arranged for two vans to shuttle us over to the museum which is approximately a 10 minute drive. There we will start with a “Southern Style” buffet lunch. After lunch we will enjoy a two hour Docent-led tour of the museum. Once the tour is finished, we will have another 30 or 45 minutes to walk around on our own and visit the gift shop. And then we’ll shuttle back to KSAV for our afternoon flight home.

The cost for joining us on this club trip is:

1. The shared cost of the airplane you are in.
2. Shared cost of transportation (based on number attending, estimated at $8-10/person).
3. Museum admission, Docent tour, lunch is $18.

Please understand that I have to pay for our tour and lunch three days before the trip. I will make the go/no-go decision based on the weather forecast on Wednesday November 16th. If the weather forecast is good and I decided we are going, all those who signed up are responsible for the $18 museum ticket.

If you would like to join us, please send me an email with your name and member number in the subject line, and the plane you want to fly/ride in, in the body of the email along with any guests you would like to include. All club members, family, student pilots, and guests are welcome. We are only limited by the number of seats in our airplanes. Once the planes are full, I will start a waiting list. Seats are assigned on a first reply, first serve basis. Club members who have your own plane are more than welcome to join us. I have negotiated a $1.50/gal discount for fuel. The cutoff date to sign up is November 4th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at pres@wingsofcarolina.org.

This month our Pizza Night guest will be USAirways Captain Bill Wilkerson who will speak on Cockpit Resource Management (CRM) now known as “Crew Resource Management.”

Bill has many thousands of flying hours accumulated over 32 years of experience flying the line for Piedmont and US Airways. He has flown them all from the YS-11 ( a 60 passenger Japanes turbo prop) to the 737, 727, 757, 767 and the 500,000 pound MGW Airbus A300. He has flown locally and trans-Atlantic to Europe.

So, what does CRM have to do with single pilot operations? A lot. What are our resources and how can we use them? What are our personal minimums?

Don’t miss it.
